Hello All!
I have just recently returned from the Canadian Junior Squash Championships held at the National Squash Academy in Toronto. The venue itself for this tournament was amazing, with nine courts including an all glass showcase court! The environment at this tournament was awesome, bringing together all the juniors from across Canada and giving us an opportunity to compete as well as getting to know each other. There are always a few intense rivalries but at the end of the day everyone leaves as friends.

John MacPhail and Darryl Wilson started a conversation about setting up a YMCA League during a local tournament, earlier in the year. Kathy Macintyre thought this would be a great event to start with woman having organized court times. With other squash enthusiast, she started a YMCA Women’s League shortly after the tournament. It started on March 17th, many women participated and it was a great event. Below you have John McPhail (Sydney) and Jennifer Cantwell (Halifax) reviewing techniques with the YMCA Women's League. Look forward to seeing you all around the courts.

2011-12 Metro Squash League Wrap-up
Wednesday May 2nd marked the end of another exciting season for the Metro Squash League. This year we had over 100 players participate in the league divided over 12 teams and 3 club locations. There were 5 teams each that played out of the Tower at Saint Mary’s University and the Dalplex at Dalhousie University together with teams from the Shearwater and Stadacona bases, who both played out of the Stadplex. This was the first year that we played with two dedicated women’s divisions (C+/B and D/C-), which accompanied the Men’s D, C-, C+ and B divisions.

The Tower Sunday Women's Squash program has finished for the season! There was a good turn-out this year, with 12-15 women out each Sunday afternoon. Lots of new players of all ages, which is great to see for our sport! This shows in tournaments, too, with big WD draws, and women moving up the levels and ranks!

Another two "Sessions" of Premier League were squeezed into this past squash season and the top ranked players from around HRM, now 24 strong and competing in four divisions, dutifully beat up on each other through 10 rounds each session.
The January to April session just concluded and congratulations go out ,once again, to Matt Bishop for his continued dominance at the top of Div I. Even as the division splintered under the twin pressures of injury and circumstance Matt managed to retain top billing in line with his provincial ranking. Keeping success within the extended family Jon Boody came second and then perennial provincial team member Matt Holland. In a division that relied heavily on subbing all year the order could have been turned upside down but consistency was generally maintained.

Another great end to the squash season in Atlantic Canada. Moncton hosted the Atlantics and they did not disapoint. The tournament was well represented by a strong NS contingent. A big thank you goes out to the tournament organizers. Special shout out to the meal at the social. BBQ beans, pulled pork, and alot more. How can you go wrong. Only those that were there truly understand. Great Job ! Onto the players, Congratulations to Shaun Hartlin who won Men's D Division, Karen Furlong who won Women's B and Martin Dumas who won the Men's B Division at the Atlantic Open in Moncton this past weekend. With their wins Shaun, Karen and Martin will move up to the Men's C, Women's A and Men's A Divisions respectively. We hope to see everyone back next year as Nova Scotia will be the Host of the 2013 Atlantics.
