If you don't know him, you haven't played squash in Atlantic Canada. Matthew Bishop has been playing competitive squash in Halifax for 27+ years! Just a few of his career highlights include junior national squad training, member of the 1991 and 1995 Nova Scotia Canada Games Team, numerous Nova Scotia Men's Provincial Team appearances, countless Atlantic Open victories and the Canadian National 30+ Champion in 2008. Not only is Matt a competitive player, he has coached both juniors and adults in past years at Dalplex and Cole Harbour Place. Matt was also the leading force behind inspiring the Halifax squash community to start hosting a PSA level tournament here in Halifax. Despite having a busy professional and family life with a wife and two gorgeous daughters, Matt continues to work hard on his game. Follow him in action this week at the Canadian National Squash Championships in Toronto. http://squash.ca/en/events/2013-canadian-national-squash-championships
Regardless of his performance at the event, anyone who knows Matt knows that he will do Atlantic Canada proud as he represents our province with world class sportsmanship |

The Atlantic Open 2013 has come to an end. It was a busy weekend full of great squash. Thank you to the organizing committee and all volunteers that help make this tournament a big success. It was one of the biggest draws in recent years (144) with participants from all Atlantic provinces. Special thank you to everyone that made the journey to Halifax. Shout out to Newfoundland squash members who made the trip. See below for results.

The Bluenose Squash Classic Voyage Continues
For Immediate Release: March 1, 2013
Halifax, Nova Scotia, Even the Bluenose Squash Classic could not escape the far reaching effects of the current global economic environment and has been struggling to maintain the momentum of the past 7 years. Fortunately, due to the generous support of our core sponsorship group, and in particular, our new title sponsor, Fiera Properties Limited, there will be an 8thannual Bluenose Squash Classic.

On behalf of the Nova Scotia Men’s Provincial Team, I would like to thank the SNS Executive Committee and the membership at large, for their financial support in sending Matt Bishop, James Wiseman, and myself (Jon Boody) to Montreal this past January to compete in the Canadian Men’s Team Championships.
The 2013 Canadian Team Championships were held at the prestigious Club Sportif MAA Montreal from January 4th to 6th. Our Nova Scotia Team entered the event seeded 6th behind Quebec 1, Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec 2. I believe all but one player on these five teams was/is an active member of the Professional Squash Association. Given this, we knew going into the event that improving on our seeding would be extremely difficult. With this in mind, our goal, come Sunday was to be playing off in the consolation final for 5th/6th.
Our first match on Friday was against the Canadian Forces Team…two thirds of which was made up of Nova Scotia residents (Brian Reid & Gilles Couture). Our team was in good form for this opening encounter and won the match 3-0.
