Well, what another epic adventure Mill River 2012 was, full of so much great squash and fun. The tournament was well represented by Nova Scotia. Even though Mother Nature came out screaming on Friday, everyone made it down safe and sound. A big thank you to everyone involved in organizing this wonderful tournament.. We look forward in seeing what next year will bring.

Team Atlantic Masters Team – Canadian Masters Team Championships Jan. 13-15, 2012
On the weekend of January 13-15, 2012, for the first time in its history, Team Atlantic competed at the Canadian Team Masters Championships. Team Atlantic was put together with members Jane Hicks and John Power from P.E.I., Tom Evans from New Brunswick and Ray Souchereau, Chris Petropolis and Janet MacLeod from Nova Scotia. Our seventh player, Viola Henessey, from Ottawa, was actually born in Newfoundland so it was a true Atlantic Team.

Men’s Provincial Team finishes one better then their seeding…..
London, Ontario was the host of this years Men’s Teams Championships. This legendary event hosts the top 3-players from each province who playoff for the National team title.
This year, Nova Scotia’s team consisted of Matt’s; Bishop, Sharpe, and Holland.
Although we arrived in one piece we left worse for ware. The draw format of the event set us up to play five matches in just three days. This is a tall order for the veterans of Team Nova Scotia, but we were initially psyched for the challenge.
We entered the weekend matches seeded 9th. Our first match pitted us against the 8th seed Saskatchewan. We came out firing and each put up an early W. The victory earned us a place in one of four quarterfinals. Unfortunately our quarterfinal was against the # 1 seed Alberta less than three hours after stepping off the court with Saskatchewan. The score line was predictable playing against a couple of PSA tour players. Nova Scotia showed its true character by not giving in easily, but each of our efforts was not enough to win.

If you didn’t make it to the Tower this past weekend you missed out on a great event. Hats off to Gordon Brown and his team of volunteers who put on a phenomenal Canadian National Women’s Team Championships. Gordon did not miss a detail. From provincial flags courtside, a shuttle service all weekend, excellent food and even free drinks on Friday night!
On behalf of the Nova Scotia Women’sTeam, I’d like to thank Gordon, all the volunteers (too many to name), all of the referees and our coach, Neil Harvey, who all gave up their entire weekend to make this event such a success. Having been to this event many times, I can honestly say this was one of the best.
