You have probably heard by now that Halifax is hosting the Canada Winter Games in 2011.  The Games are a huge event, representing the pinnacle of athletic achievement for young athletes at the National level of competition.  The Games will bring tremendous athletic talent and interest to our city, and we should all be proud to show off our maritime hospitality to the rest of the country!

Squash is one of the 21 sports included at the games, and it will be held at the newly renovated courts at Saint Mary's The Tower from Saturday February 12 - Friday February 18, 2011.  The court renovations were made possible by major funding from the Canada Games Council as a legacy to Squash Nova Scotia from hosting the Games.  In addition to the court renovations, there will be an all-glass court on hand during the event for the first time in Nova Scotia history.

Of course, Nova Scotia will be entering Men's and Women's teams for the events.  For more information on the Nova Scotia Squash Teams and how you can participate or help, follow this link or contact Blair Cook.

A Sport Organizing Committee for Squash has been struck to organize and produce the Canada Games event in 2011.  David Westwood is the Sport Leader for squash, chairing a committee consisting of Kathy Mullane, Matt Bishop, Mike Mills, Thom Hori, Carl Helmick, and Jeff Scribner.  We need volunteers to help out with many aspects of the Canada Games, including serving as minor officials during the event.  For more information on how you can help now and during the Games, please contact David Westwood (email: david.westwood at dal.ca).

For those of you who cannot commit time to help with the Canada Games, please mark the dates on your calendar so you can come to The Tower and cheer on our athletes!
