The 2010 Annual General Meeting and Player Appreciation night was held at the Garrison Brewery on Thursday May 6. Although the turnout was low, some important business was conducted and we had a great time.
Due to their involvement in other squash-related activities, no-one from the 2009-2010 SNS Executive (Martin Clouthier, Jessica Gerrits, Carl Helmick, Camilla Holmvall, David Westwood, Andrew Sleigh, Blair Cook) wished to continue their position for the 2010-2011 season, so nominations were being accepted for all vacancies. Martin Dumas and Jeff Scribner were elected to two Vice-President positions, and Charles Williams offered to step forward to help out in some capacity. We are still trying to find people to step forward for the President, Treasurer, and Secretary positions.
As outgoing president, Martin Clouthier did a nice recognition of Andrew Sleigh's considerable contributions to Squash NS over the years, in response to Andrew's resignation from the Executive after 12 years of service. The following end-of-season awards were handed out:
Players of the year:
Male: Josh Rudolph
Female: Leah Boody
Most improved players:
Women: Eleanor Fitzpatrick
Girls: Emily Terry
Men: Kyle Johnson
Boys: Matthew Sharpe
Referee of the year:
Thomas Hori
Volunteer of the year:
David Westwood
Steve Rogers Spirit of Squash Award:
David Westwood
Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM, especially Janet Macleod who made the trip in from the Valley to attend. Needless to say, the existence and vibrance of Squash NS depends on the volunteers who step forward to take on various roles during the season, including the Executive, and the people who help out with Junior programs, fundraisers, tournaments, women's leagues, squash clubs, and many other thankless jobs. We need pepple to step forward for the Executive, so please consider giving some of your time to the sport you love. For those of you still in your 'formative' career years, serving on the Executive provides a unique opportunity to build your resume, your administration skills, and build connections throughout the province. |
